Where does the default price come from? The default 26.11p/kWh is Ofgem’s average capped electricity unit rate for Great Britain from 1 July to 30 September 2026. It includes VAT but not the daily standing charge. Economy 7 rates vary by supplier and region, so the two-rate values are editable examples.

A 2 kW heater uses 2 kWh for every full-power hour. A thermostat can reduce actual running time.
Heat-pump dryers usually use less electricity than vented or condenser models. Use the energy-label kWh per cycle where available.
Weather, flow temperature, COP and insulation matter more than the maximum input printed on the unit.
Enter actual heating time, not all the hours the cylinder remains switched on.
The compressor runs intermittently; annual kWh on the energy label is the best benchmark.
An appliance label often shows maximum or rated input, while real power changes during a cycle. This calculator excludes fixed standing charges because they are not caused by one appliance. For the best result, enter your bill’s unit rate and measured average wattage.
