How the date difference is calculated

Calendar days between two dates

The calculator uses calendar dates rather than clock time, avoiding daylight-saving errors. By default the end date is excluded, which matches elapsed-time calculations.

Working days and weekends

Weekdays are Monday to Friday and weekends are Saturday and Sunday. Bank holidays are not removed because they vary by jurisdiction and year.

Inclusive date counting

Enable “include both dates” when both boundary dates should count, for example for a holiday, booking or project schedule.

Exact duration and decimal units

Exact duration uses calendar years and months. Decimal months use the average Gregorian month length and are useful only as an estimate.

How many days are there between two dates?

Select a start and end date. The calculator subtracts the start date from the end date and shows the result immediately.

Does the calculator include the end date?

Not by default. Enable “include both dates” to count both boundaries.

Are bank holidays counted as working days?

Yes. The weekday total excludes weekends only; bank holidays are not stored or updated.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. Calculations use real calendar dates, including 29 February in leap years.

Can the dates be entered in reverse order?

Yes. They are automatically reordered for the calculation and a notice is shown.
