From the third year, each cat year adds approximately four human years.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about cat years and life stages

No. Cats mature much faster during their first two years: one cat year is about 15 human years and two cat years about 24.

The first year is estimated at 15 human years, the second at 24, and every later year adds approximately four.

Not in this simple comparison. Breed, genetics, body condition and health can still affect an individual cat’s ageing and lifespan.

This calculator shows the senior stage from about 11 years. Individual health and care needs can differ.

Choose “I know the age” and enter an estimated number of years and months. A vet may also estimate age from teeth, eyes, coat and body condition.

No. Lifestyle only changes the care tip, because cats that go outdoors face different risks.

Cat years and human years are not the same

A cat age calculator makes it easy to compare your pet’s age with a human life stage. It is a fun comparison, but life stage can also guide activity, diet and preventive checks.

The “multiply by seven” rule ignores a kitten’s rapid development. A one-year-old cat is already comparable to a teenager, and a two-year-old to a young adult.

This calculator uses the simple 15–9–4 model: 15 human years for the first year, nine more for the second and about four for every year after that. It is a guide, not a biological test.
